You may not know it yet, but you have an internet presence!

In my opinion, there are 3 basic types of internet presence:

1. None : self explainatory. You can’t find you even if you Google your own name!
2. Validation : You have a website (basic or complex) that is there to prove you are legitimate. If you hand someone a card, or they are provided your website address, they can visit your website. They may even find you through Google if they already know your name.
3. Attraction : This is the most preferred type of presence. Your website attracts visitors. They find you when they don’t even know you exist. Your website pops up in the first 2 pages of search engine results. Instead of simply validating your existence, your website is providing you business.

As you can see, most people want a website of Attraction. But honestly, that type of a website does not happen by accident. You need to have a complete internet strategy, encompassing SEO, co ntent, visual stimulation, etc.

When you blog, be sure to keep your focus. Too many times professionals can make the mistake of using their blog to present content best suited for their personal blog or MySpace page.

A good business blog should highlight your business. You do not need to necessarily claim “I do this best”, but you should highlight services your company provides and the solutions you can provide. Your business blog should not be your personal soap box.
